Not only did scientist discover new creatures on a recent excursion in the Australian deep, but they have discovered more on the adverse effects of global warming on the deep sea reefs. Samplings suggest ocean acidification (caused by global warming) could be responsible for newly dead corral found 1,300 meters below the surface. If the scientists prediction are correct, ocean acidification could cause the demise of shallower corral reef systems throughout the next 50 years. Greenhouse gas build up (especially carbon dioxide) is responsible for rising temperatures which causes the sea water to become more acidic.
Fun Fact: In 2007 the UN reported that Australia's Great Barrier Reef (aka the world's largest living organism) could be killed within decades because of climate changes.
The abundance of undiscovered life in the reef is motivation enough to slow down it's inevitable demise. Scientist found numerous new creatures on this dive and who knows what else is out there. We need to be more responsible with the chemicals we put into the atmosphere, because not only do those chemicals have negative effects on us, but they have negative effects on all life forms on Earth. Even the corral reef systems 1,300 meters below sea level.

The Perfect Job
Reef conservationists everywhere should be jumping at this opportunity from the Australian state of Queensland. This state government is planning to pay one lucky snorkler 105,000 US dollars to stay on a tropical island for six months to walk on the beach, admire the reefs, and complete "a few minor tasks". The qualifications include the ability to speak and write English, strong swimming skills, must be an excellent communicator with the media, and must love the sea, sun, and outdoors.
Sounds like the perfect job for me! If my blog suddenly goes untouched for approximately 6 months you will know where I am.

President Bush aims to protect three marine sanctuaries
As President George W. Bush's second term comes to a close, not only is he trying to protect his legacy, but he is also taking time to protect our oceans. He designated three areas in the Pacific Ocean to become national monuments and to be protected from energy extraction and commercial fishing. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28506975/
