Reef conservationists everywhere should be jumping at this opportunity from the Australian state of Queensland. This state government is planning to pay one lucky snorkler 105,000 US dollars to stay on a tropical island for six months to walk on the beach, admire the reefs, and complete "a few minor tasks". The qualifications include the ability to speak and write English, strong swimming skills, must be an excellent communicator with the media, and must love the sea, sun, and outdoors.
Sounds like the perfect job for me! If my blog suddenly goes untouched for approximately 6 months you will know where I am.

Here's hoping Elizabeth. I don't know about any of the other bloggers in the world, but I'm really doubting that after your five years of undergraduate studies you will be able to find a job at all, let alone one that involves you floating around in Australia for a living . Hey, I know a couple super-seniors that don't have jobs yet and they are pretty cool....so....

ReplyDeleteSlainte, how rude of you. I don't know Elizabeth (just a random blogger that came across her work), but from her entries, she seems like a bright girl.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I came across this story on CNN. Seems like a pretty cool gig, but it's only for a year (or was it six months?), so it caters to someone without a formal, involved career. Plus, $105,000 is probably chump change for you Elizabeth, so you probably wouldn't be interested.
Don't let Slainte get you down. After reading her blog I think she has connections to the infamous James J. "Whitey" Bulger, so don't piss her off either. He's still on the run, but with John Walsh and me on the case, not for long. Rest easy.
Why are reefs endangered in the first place? I would be interested in seeing some of the online resources available that help answer that question and define the parameters of the problem.
